popular tree

found this post in main forum. i hadn’t checked out that section on this site before and was kinda surprised by the MM hunter .
now i know doing the most damage is a good thing but i’m just curious about for general use. is it common practice to pay and change your tree for different events and situations? just to let you know i’ve only been playing for 1.5 months so i might be way off but the full on MM build seems rather limited? great for PvP, instance, and other activities where you don’t need your pet to tank for you.
now, i have been spreading my points out somewhat. i am heavy on the BM tree but have a number of points on both SV and MM. i do some instances, a bg now and then, but mostly solo. i have to say i don’t think i could do what i can do if my pet wasn’t able to hold hate as well as it does and if my traps were not as effective. i’m actually quite proud of my solo prowess.
btw, does anyone have a link to a common, popular, solo build? and i’m not thinking about a 100 BM build. just seems like you miss out on so many options if you dump every single point into one tree. being able to solo so much is one of my favorite aspects of this game. it’s my FFXI relief
not knocking the MM build cause i’m sure it’s great when you are in a position where you can just blast away with out any worries. just curious if ppl pay a bunch of gold to constantly swap their points around?
thanks,
