Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Nexon America announced Mabinogi new expansion Dragon, alone with Flying Brooms. The Ancient Secrets of Irinid patch for Mabinogi was only launched a matter of months ago, but it looks like the team at devCAT kept up their momentum and quickly got to work on the game’s next chapter. Publisher Nexon America has just announced that there will be another content update this year, simply titled Dragon, which is focused on a war between dragon factions in a new area called Zardine. This zone will play host to a number of new enemies, and dungeons here will feature a new “hard mode” difficulty.

Along with the dragons in Dragon, Mabinogi’s recent foray into flight will continue in the next patch, with players engaging in aerial combat with flying monsters — while manning hot air balloons. Sounds ridiculously precarious, but at the same time fun. The update will also include lots of additional items, weapons, clothing, image enhancements and some pets. The teaser trailer we have posted after the break shows off a bit of everything from Dragon, including the aforementioned hot air balloon combat.

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

BioWare and LucasArts wowed E3 attendees when the two companies showed off Star Wars: The Old Republic in more detail. The show trailer was the talk of the town for the week of the convention, and now, two weeks later, gamers can get the first official details regarding the MMORPG’s Smuggler class.Stacking up enemies as fast as they stack up credits, Smugglers only survive in this galaxy by being slick, sneaky and street-smart. Whether sweet-talking an attractive alien or bargaining with a hardened criminal contact, the Smuggler’s charm is a notorious asset, and often the ticket to turning around a deteriorating situation. We’re expecting a fully fleshed-out blog entry about the Smuggler to go live in the next few weeks, but until then, check out the new screens which show off this class in action.Click for new screens.

Bryn says: I kinda skipped out on the whole “who shot first” debate back in the late ’90s, not being a big “Star Wars” enthusiast at the time. Since then, I’ve developed a new appreciation for the movies and games (particularly the LEGO Star Wars games) so the news of the Smuggler class has again whet my appetite for this new MMORPG.Which class are you looking forward to tackling?

Euro-WoW Team!

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

LONDON, England – February 3, 2004 – During a press conference held today, Blizzard Entertainment® announced plans to build a local World of WarcraftTM team in Europe. The team will be responsible for community relations, customer service, and technical support for the game. Additionally, they will manage the distribution and hosting of World of Warcraft on local European servers. With a regional team in place, Blizzard intends to affirm its commitment to the European game community by delivering a massively-multiplayer experience of unparalleled quality.
Based in France, the pan-European team will serve as an integral part of the game’s development process. In this role, they will help manage both text and voice localization, assist in the synchronization of development schedules, and communicate player feedback directly to the World of Warcraft development team. Furthermore, having a team located in Europe will provide gamers with faster response times, direct game master (GM) support, and personal communication with local call-center representatives dedicated to helping players with questions regarding gameplay and/or technical issues in their native languages.
“The European gaming community is very important to us,” stated Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With a dedicated World of Warcraft team in Europe, we can provide players with an extraordinary level of customer service and community support.”
As further example of its commitment to gamers in Europe, Blizzard intends to make World of Warcraft available in French and German, as well as English. Further details regarding additional possible languages will be announced in the months ahead. Furthermore, Blizzard plans to release a beta version of World of Warcraft in Europe shortly following the North American beta test.
Building on the success of the Warcraft series, Blizzard hopes to expand the MMORPG genre by creating a deep, immersive, user-friendly experience that will appeal to both veteran gamers and casual players alike. World of Warcraft takes place three years following the aftermath of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, when a great tension has settled over the ravaged world of Azeroth. As the various races begin to rebuild their shattered kingdoms, new threats, both ancient and terrifying, have arisen to plague the world once again. Players must explore the lands of Azeroth, forge fellowships with other players, and build their strength in order to prevail.
